Research and archive material on Isaac Israels transferred to RKD
Mrs N. van Roosmalen has transferred to the RKD the corpus of Isaac Israels documentation accumulated by her late husband J.H.H. van Roosmalen (1954-2006). The documentation falls into two parts: research documentation (received on long-term loan) and archival records (received as a gift).
Joop van Roosmalen was known as an authority on the art of Isaac Israels. He was preparing a catalogue raisonné of his work, a project he was sadly unable to complete. The files that have come to the RKD can be divided into two groups. The first and largest group is made up of J.H.H. van Roosmalen’s research documentation and his collection of archival records on Isaac Israels. Access to this material is restricted.
The second part of the gift is the collection of the art historian Anna Wagner (1909-2001) consisting of archival papers and documentation on Isaac Israels which had been on loan to Joop van Roosmalen. In 1985, Van Roosmalen and the art dealer Ivo Bouwman helped to produce the second revised edition of Anna Wagner’s standard work on Isaac Israels, first published in 1967. The gift of her research collection is publicly available and adds greatly to the existing Anna Wagner archive held by the RKD.
