Art & Architecture Thesaurus
The Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) is a tool used worldwide to access architectural, art, and cultural-history collections in museums, libraries, slide libraries, archives, and institutions specialized in documentation. The 'Art and Architecture Thesaurus Nederlandstalig' (AAT Dutch) is a translated and edited version of the Art & Architecture Thesaurus compiled by the Getty Research Institute. This Dutch translation, initiated by the RKD, was started in 1994. From the outset the RKD collaborated with the Netherlands Historic Buildings Council in Zeist. In 1998 the Ministry of Culture of the Flemish Federation also became a partner of the AAT.
The AAT contains terms referring to objects but also to materials, techniques, categories of people and organizations, styles, events, and abstract concepts. In short, it has all the terms needed to access documents, archivalia, photographs, books, and object of cultural history of any kind whatsoever. All of the Dutch AAT may be consulted in the on-line AAT.
