Friends of the RKD
The RKD is supported by a Society of Friends, named after the institute’s founder, Cornelis Hofstede de Groot (1863-1930). The C. Hofstede de Groot Foundation / Friends of the RKD was launched on 17 June 1993.
This Friends organization aims to expand the circle of people interested in the work of the RKD, both in the Netherlands and abroad, and to help raise funds for various purposes, including major acquisitions. It looks to strengthen the position of the RKD in the art-historical world, and to broaden the scope of its activities.
The management board consists of P.J. Schoon MA, Director of the Dordrechts Museum (chair); H. Godschalx (treasurer); mrs M.C.E. Aarts MA, registered valuer of paintings; D. Hardeman MA, curator at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The Foundation’s secretarial office is administered by the RKD.
The Foundation regularly organizes special activities for the Friends, such as lectures and visits to exhibitions. Friends are automatically invited to other events (co-)organized by the RKD. Twice a year Friends receive a free copy of the RKD Bulletin (in Dutch and English), which is published with support from the Foundation. Contributors to the Friends of the RKD Foundation get a 50 % reduction in the admission charge for the RKD. Benefactors are entitled to free admission. From time to time the RKD also offers books at a special price to Friends.
Visiting the Tefaf
On the general public’s first day, Friday, 13 March 2009, several people took the tours organised exclusively for the Friends of the RKD. Director Rudi Ekkart, still-life specialist Fred Meijer, and Anita Hopmans, chief curator of modern and contemporary art, provided insight into works of art presented in the TEFAF stands of various art galleries for the RKD’s very interested and enthusiastic Friends.
You can become a Friend or Benefactor of the RKD via the online Registration form Friends of the RKD or by completing a registration card, available from the reception desk. For further information about the Friends of the RKD Foundation please contact:
