Friends of the RKD
The RKD is supported by a Society of Friends, named after the institute’s founder, Cornelis Hofstede de Groot (1863-1930). The C. Hofstede de Groot Foundation / Friends of the RKD was launched on 17 June 1993.
This Friends organization aims to expand the circle of people interested in the work of the RKD, both in the Netherlands and abroad, and to help raise funds for various purposes, including major acquisitions. It looks to strengthen the position of the RKD in the art-historical world, and to broaden the scope of its activities.
The management board consists of mrs. L. de Koekkoek MA, director Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar (chair); H. Godschalx (treasurer); mrs M.C.E. Aarts MA, registered valuer of paintings; D. Hardeman MA, curator at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The Foundation’s secretarial office is administered by the RKD.
The Foundation aims to facilitate the development of the RKD in the broadest sense of the word. The main activities devised to achieve this goal are:
- To increase the number of members/Friends (10% growth per annum)
- To strengthen the RKD brand
- To contribute to acquisitions and conservation of the RKD collections
- To support publications and events
- To organise activities for the members, such as guided tours and lectures
The Foundation regularly organizes special activities for the Friends, such as lectures and visits to exhibitions. Friends are automatically invited to other events (co-)organized by the RKD. Twice a year Friends receive a free copy of the RKD Bulletin (in Dutch and English), which is published with support from the Foundation. Contributors to the Friends of the RKD Foundation get a 50 % reduction in the admission charge for the RKD. Benefactors are entitled to free admission. From time to time the RKD also offers books at a special price to Friends.
You can become a Friend or Benefactor of the RKD via the online Registration form Friends of the RKD or by completing a registration card, available from the reception desk. For further information about the Friends of the RKD Foundation please contact:
